SeaKnots

I just filled both water tanks on my B40.

Water pressure in the cockpit shower, head sink tap and shower is good but the galley sink tap is at a trickle.

Any assistance would be great.

Thanks,

Chris

PS What is the cylindrical red tank located next to the water tank valves with the air pressure value (like a car tire) on top?

Clean the screen at the end of the faucet. It is most likely clogged with grit. This happens to me all the time when I fill up with well water at the marina. The screen may be tight on the faucet, so use a rag and a pliers to unscrew the fitting. I generally will turn on the faucet without the screen in place to confirm that was the problem.

I agree with Bruce. Happens to us all the time when we use well water from the marina. The filter gets clogged and the flow goes to a trickle.

agreed, there is a small plastic filter that you can blow out and you will be surprised at the gunk that comes out.

On your other question the red tank is a water pressure accumulator tank.  It helps to reduce the on/off cycling of the water pump.  I recently noticed that the pump was pulsing on and off more frequently when a faucet was open.

Turn the water pressure circuit breaker off, open a tap somewhere to release the built up pressure, then put a small bike pump onto the top of that and bring up the pressure of the bladder. About 5-10 pumps.

Chris

The Red tank is an accumulator, it stores water under pressure. If you use water and turn the faucet off the pump will run for a few seconds charging the accumulator. If you turn the water pump off at the control panel you will still have a limited amount of water flow as the accumulator pushes water into the system.

By the way you will probably need to clean the screen on the end of the water pump since it can clog with debris also.

I have had this happen on our B43, loosened the screw retaining the cartridge, pulled cartridge from faucet and blew into cartridge to remove debris. I did not realize there is a filter on the faucet end. Will definitely try unscrewing the filter next time.

As for the red tank next to the water pump and diaphragm bilge pump. I went on-line to Beneteau USA and they did not have a name for the item but it is a water pressure accumulation tank ( this is not the proper name but more a description of what it does).  It helps to keep water pressure on the boats water system at a predetermined level. When we open a spigot the water comes out with water pressure supplied from the accumulator tank then once pressure drops below a certain level the water pump kicks in and runs (supplying pressure) until that cutoff pressure is once again reached. After you close the spigot you may notice that the pump continues to run for a bit. This is when the pump is building pressure for the system and the tank is where that pressure is being stored til you open the spigot next time.

There are newer systems that do not have these tanks. Newer water pumps supply pressurized water on demand. Not sure what the shortcomings are of one or the other but should our pump fail we will look into installing a quieter pump and may not need the accumulator tank. This would give a bit more space on that board.

Hope this helps

Thank you all for the help!

Chris

For whatever reason the pink water system antifreeze tends to leave a crystal like substance in the faucet aerators. Make sure you flush the entire system thoroughly as the problem will return if you don't. You may want to check the shower heads as well.

Mike

Hello All:

Just blew out the faucet today with your helpful advice.

Works like new!

One note:

The set screw unscrews righty loosee

Chris

I unscrewed the fiilter on our faucet yesterday using a wrench and there was a lot of crystal like substance (just as Mike previously mentioned) on top of the filter screen. There is a slight indentation on the filter assembly that accommodates a wrench. Faucet works great now.

I have a related water pressure issue and am looking for some suggested causes. The hot water pressure at the sink on my B40 is low (approximately by half) compared to the cold water. This is only the case at the sink. The shower and head faucets operate just fine.

I've cleaned the faucet filter and looked for obvious kinks or collapsing of the red hose. I only open the tank valve, at the water manifold, I'm using. I usually keep the forward tank empty to help sailing performance.

Anyone experience this issue?

Thanks,

Harry

Check to see if there is an in-line filter on the water line! It so there is a clear screw-off cover and screen filter.
