Inverter installation question

I wanted to see where on a two cabin 43, did you install the inverter? Looking for a place close to the battery but not in the same area, although I don't believe there is any room under that seat anyway.

Also where did you tie into the AC system?  Just wanted to see what worked and what suggestions you may have. I'm planning to install a 3,000W mod sine wave.

I have a Ben 40 with factory installed inverter. The inverter is 1800 watts and is located under the aft cabin mattress, in the compartment that is aft of the battery box under the aft cabin. The AC electrical wire runs aft where it crosses over the stern by the rudder post and then forward  along the port hull in connect to an lock-out switch that is located on the vertical side of the chart table. From there the AC wire for the inverter goes to a remote control panel above the AM/FM radio. Attached is a picture of the lockout switch (from another B-40) so shore current can not back feed through the inverter and cause a fire.

Thank you for getting back to me. Both spots were contenders when I was looking at differernt locations. Under the aft cabin is closest and probably best but I hate the effort it takes to pull the bedding and mattress up, similar to the discussions on servicing the batteries.

I will put in a lockout/selector switch, it makes good sense.

Bruce, what brand did Beneteu use for your factory install?

Fred, Beneteau used a Xantrex 1800 watt inverter with the remote panel. The installation includes a battery switch by the other battery switches to provide battery power to the inverter, an integral lockout switch with the shore power switch at the chart table and the remote panel switch above the AM/FM radio. Thank you for the link. You have a great website for Cono Sur and all the work you have put into her. Everyone's input really helps in laying this project out and how I plan to wire it all up. I also want to put the control at the Nav station and incorporate a hard cut-over switch between shore power and the inverter.

Hi Fred,

I don´t have any photo of my installation but in the attached one I'm indicating where I installed it.

I have and intelligent inverter/converter thanks to wich the AC sistem can start from the generator (few times I use ac while not in the port). The generator is not able to start the ac by its own due to initial current peak needed.

Thank you for your recommendation. I have already filled this area with G27 batteries to suppliment the main house battery. Its a good location but since its low and center, I put the heaviest part of the system weight there.God help me when they need replacement!  Access is horrible. Fortunately, in San Francisco, we don't have to worry about AC. It probably the only place you need a heater in the summer...
