Basically, I am an ocean-bred from Miami Beach and now landlocked in Atlanta, GA.
I was water skiing by 7, scuba diving by 9 and my family lived by the waters, on the water, in the water, and from the sea, until I joined the military.
Now 27 years later, the only time I spend out at sea is in my dreams, and of course when I visit family in Florida and Savannah.
I am a truly a sailing amateur. I started race sailing about 2 years ago for the first time on a lake, but I don't call myself a race sailor as I was just a helping hand. My only prior sailing experience was on the 16-ft Hobie Cat in high school. Like many, I fell in love with the sailing concept, even though I grew up with cigarettes, formulas and on my dad’s 42 footer power yacht.
For years, I have filled my ocean emptiness with camping, backpacking, rock climbing and mountain biking, but I know where my true love lies. Finally, I have come to my senses, something I should have done years ago in order to pass on the love of the ocean to our daughters.
But never the less, it’s never too late. I am green, willing and determined. At the present time, my goal is to get a trailer pocket cruiser that I can learn to sail along the east coast of NC/SC down to the Keys and island hopping.
Current location:
Lake Lanier, GA, and any other lake that's within 3hrs from ATL
Found you when I searched "mountain biking" on Seaknots.
Start early with the girls. If they are too old, it is hard to get them sailing every week.
JBoats is coming up with a 7 m trailerable boat. Have a look. They are always nice to race or potter aound with. What is best about them, it is easy to off-load it when you no longer want it, or want to upgrade.
Hey Jodi! Give me your email address and I'll let you know when I'm heading out, if you'd like to join me. I'm preparing for Cock Island and will be trying to get some Wednesday night races on the York River in as practice, too.
There's also several sailing clubs in the area: Old Point Comfort Yacht Club, for which I handle the web page (http://opcyc.org) is primarily military folks (mostly Army out of Ft. Monroe), Seaford Yacht Club, and York River Yacht Club. All would be good leads.
Hi Jodi, I race from Little Creek and belong to the Navy Sailing Club. The next club meeting is at NOB at 6:30 May 26th. The food will be Mexican for Cinco de Mayo. Join us and meet some sailing people, both cruising and racing.

Hi Jodi,
I am pleased to add you as a sea knots friend. I empathize with being land-locked though it sounds like you are one who blooms where you are planted. There is so much to life and even when our passion calls for a change, there is much to learn and enjoy whereever life takes us.
If you are ever in the Melbourne, Florida area contact me as there is probably as much sailing here as in Miami; albiet the water isn't as blue as Biscayne Bay. I own a Corsair F28 tri, a Hobie 14 and a sunfish so there is always a boat to sail. In addition I race on a women's team on a Lindenberg 28 monohull. So, aside from working 50 hours a week as a school counselor, sailing is what I do!
I guess I need to update my blog to get tips from others who have cruised from Florida to NY harbor. This summer will be my first excursion of this type so I am really getting excited. As my mom reminded me at my age the days really do whiz by.

Why don't you plan on joining us for the race in Portsmouth on Saturday, then bring the boat back on Sunday?
