So where are the "single sailors" who are looking for a soul mate? So many on the single sailors list are couples! I've been sailing for 8 years and would love to find a "soul mate" to enjoy the ride with for long term.

Gary B--Effective age an equation of net worth?? Sad for those who think that way. Subtract some years off the bride's age too if that's what you think. This groom has $ yes, but the bride has a substantial career (aside from her world class sailing trophies... plus 1/2 of her folks notable wealth someday.) When contemplating a similar connection (yet neither of us wealthy), I asked her would she do it again, this commitment to a man of another generation "Life's short and love is where you find it" she smiled. She doesn't need him, but she's loved him 16 years and now commits to rest of life.
Effective age is truly a function of Exercise + Attitude. The sailor who stole my heart won sailing events before I was born. 1st attraction was that he was up & running his mile before the boat races. And he drank very little, shared my passion for yoga, ate nutritiously & was necessarily frugal so as to afford such regattas when newly retired. He'd divorced at the same time, raised his son alone like I did and shared my traditional faith. I'm still hurting over being told he was too old. He's traditional enough that the "pat on the back" with eyebrows raised got to him, as did the fact I would still need to work for my own retirement.

Most of my woman friends who are single prefer a few years older or same age in a partner. Got a feeling some of the "regulars"... women in the dating scene that may have been "looking" for quite a while may be looking for younger or richer and that's why they're still "look'in". Most of my friends are independant & happy, may wish that they'd meet someone..but not a priority and not on the prowl.

So tell me..why is a 55 year old woman who's looking for 26 - 46 "ambitious" ?? But the other way around..men don't say anything negative of each other..but get a pat on the back. As for *RE: 'contented kitties, comfortable in our own domain' - isn't that pretty much the definition of a stray cat? No that isn't the definition of a stray cat.

70-something, Ted Turner, ... see, the way it works is, to get to the 'effective age' you subtract 1 year for every $10 million of net worth. :D

the groom's a college buddy of his best man, Ted Turner... so yes, 70-something, older than the sailor who played ships in the night with my heart last fall and then decided he was too old for me!

hmm....on a silly note if the age span is 30 yrs and she's 45.....does that put the groom at 15 or 75.....lol.

Bride & Groom's age span nearly 30 years, the groom about Ted's age, she's 45 and very independent... so this is love :-)
and Sward, smokers & destitute cannot hide it but just how do we avoid alcoholics around drunken sailors???

Sward, yes better to be alone than with a saboteur... but I expect to not-get-along with a mate some of the time. Acceptance is the key, not constant agreement. The older one gets the less age mattes at all, it's health that matters most. I learned last year that dear companionship and shared values can indeed transcend generations and stir up passion. Navigating family/society scorn was what put us on the rocks.
However ~~wedding bells chime~~ this very week culminating a decade of courtship between an olympic sailor & one who'd rather golf, yet with none other than the infamous Captain Courageous as his best man.

"attend"? That translates to needin' a ~Cruising Companion~ rather than a ~Crew~ C'mon guys! Please be clear about vocabulary!! Terri, thanks for the pointer of secondary uses for rigging knives; I'll be sure to keep it on my beltloop. This spring, I answered a crew ad, hoping to sail down the coast for the leg of the journey that matched my semester break. Thankfully this captain was old school, a gentleman sailor who waited til he returned from his voyage to confess Temptation was cause for ignoring my crew response. I was shocked by the 'companionable' response from someone dad's age who's known me since I was a tot.... another girl who grew up at this same at this yacht club said she'd have replied just as innocently as I did, eager for the sail, not a chase. We weren't born yesterday, we're 50 and the gentleman sailor's 70. I guess his married-five-times should have been the red flag, but all I read on the club's posted notice was 'Crew Needed.'

Right on Terri-don't need any stray cats. Is it better to be alone/lonely or to be with someone you don't get along with. As for your coments Gary, I have found that someone 10 years older or younger is in a different time warp, ie: music, era, etc. and it doesn't work-at least for me. Also I would be perfectly happy to find someone who has their own boat and if it works out we could sell both and get one that was "ours". Another comment; I have sailed alone for 8 years and have been in the sailing environment-not land locked ,and still have not met anyone and all have the same passion. Of course, you have to weed out the alcoholics, smokers, destitute, those with no interest in doing more than sitting on their boats and not moving it.
