Vacation is just plain Vacation....

well, S/V Anna Lynn is sitting here in Palafox marina, Pensacola Florida watching one massive thunder storm coming our way. Great time to be moored-to and running both air conditioners,,,,LOL, rest of our cruising group is moored in Little Sabine Bay getting ready for the weather... got to love Vacations, esp. when you can get lucky and miss some of the bad weather....................

Planned trip to southeast

I know this is kinda early but I am looking forward to spending the end of Jan 2011 in Key West for Race Week. Is there anyone out there who has contacts that might need a crew member with some race time and is great at doing what he is told?

OMG

Isn't it funny how once you learn something it becomes integrated into your life? Just a few days ago I became acqainted with the text message phrase "OMG." As luck would have I proceeded to lose $800 in cash that was contained in one of those little bank envelopes along with my driver's license and ATM card. Having just left the bank enroute to register SPRAY, then pay a friend for the work he did on her, I felt good that I had the money to pay off these little ditties..

Nasty Boat Ramps

Ever been told to wear shoes at the boat ramp? Ever not listen to what you are told? Ever have a sail mate think they know better?

So it was on Friday, May 14 when one of my crew and aspiring small boat racers decided to take her shoes off before getting out of her boat at the ramp. Seems she forgot she was told to wear shoes. Seems she also was clueless about the danger that lurks in the nasty, broken glass, oyster shelled, moss covered slippery ramp waters where we launch…

Any Day on the water is a good day.....LOL

Well, flirted with "mother nature", today and pulled this one off, you have to be very careful, and not get too cocky, because you know what could happen. There was a storm brewing today, and we had to make a run for the harbor, we've all been "here" before, ie, trying to beat the weather and make "safe harbor" before all H... breaks loose. Today like last weekend out on the water when the winds were blowing 22-25 knots, really gets the blood pumping.....guess that's why we do what we do for… Continue

AIS , Word Press, and Getting Along with Others

Ahoy there mateys,

Just did some research on AIS. Like learning to sail, AIS has a language of its own. There is static and dynamic transmission. Does that mean fuzzy sounding versus a really terrific communication?

How about Furuno and Raymarine? Is Furuno related to King Furuk? Recently one was criticized for calling an autopilot an autopilot and not a Raymarine. Does that mean AIS will steer me away from danger?

Ay, here's a clarity. Digital…

By the First Mate

What a relaxing last few days. I (mostly) had two days off back to back and coincidentally, so did Chuck.

Yesterday for Happy Hour We met some friends at Anthony's for a drink and had some good laughs. We spent the afternoon watching boat traffic go by talking about the weather. Anthony's is the place to

spend…

What a Day!!!!!

Well, today was a great day for a sail, winds out of the north 20-25 knots, and S/V Anna Lynn was like a race horse just let out of the barn after a long winter... what a rush!!!!!.....
Speeds of 7.1-7.5 were the normal all day long, with only main and Genoa.... just think if we had the mizzen and staysail out........

Be Careful who you do business with.

Well, this is a first for me, never before have I felt the need to let everyone know about a marine hardware company who will take advantage of you. Back in Jan. of this year I ordered some stainless vent cowls from Blue Water Hardware, located out in CA., and at first I was double charged, after calling and e-mailing for 1 1/2 months got response to billing issue and asked why I have not received order, told billing issue resolved order on it's way, well guess what? order was not shipped, and… Continue

Ode to a Broken World

The following is an excerpt from the afterword in Sailing Faith: The Long Way Home.

In four years and a half of traveling the globe, we found no strangers. We found people everywhere engaged in life, in love, in vocation, and in worship.

Curiosities abounded, but rather than focus on the curiosities of others, we gained a perspective…

Confused again

Here I am confused again. I was grazing my blog profile and other pages I am not always sure how I navigate to. None the less, a pop up box asked if I wanted to share my blog post on Face Book. Though I have two Face Book accounts, one under my name and the other under a boat I race (Fast Lane), neither are up to date. Regardless, I typed up a little message/story about my current situation, thoughts, and feelings, forgot to save it, and hit…
