Almost Wet

There are some physical characteristics one should assume prior to engaging in plumbing projects aboard a boat; including, but not limited to, the strength of Sampson, the wisdom of Solomon, and the patience of Job. Having three hands would help too, and Gumby's spine. Changing intake valves on a boat is like performing in Circus de Soleil. To catch up we have a monohull practice scheduled for this Thursday night. Safey will be reviewed with a man overboard drill the priority. Without a chase boat, however, we will just use a throwable cushion or boat fender. Someone else suggested we…

Murphy Loves Boaters

April 2, 2010 Shilshole Bay:

When I lived in Hawaii I used to sometimes put a mini weather report at the end of my emails to people in the mainland. You know, the usual Hawaii weather report - 80, sunny, trades. Here in Seattle it's a little different - 40, rain, gales...

I read in a local paper a while back “You can’t talk about Seattle without talking about the weather…it makes everyone here a…

Mike Brown replied to Larry Witty's discussion B43 Windlass Drainage in the group Beneteau 40 & 43
"Sounds like you need to give that windlass some TLC. I used to clean and apply a light coating of grease to all the surfaces in and under the gypsy. It remained smooth over a 10 year period. Five of those years were spent cruising full time on the…"

B43 Windlass Drainage

Doing some maintenance on my B43 Quick Antares windlass this year. After removing the windlass, I knew instantly that I should have been doing this at least ever other year.  The windlass was preforming weak and slow with a noise which made me think the motor brushes or a bearing was going out, thus the reason for removing it.What I found upon removal was a tremendous amount of salt and sand on the top part of the gearbox, literally packed in.
