On the far side of the bridge is a great place to tie up and get provisions. There are a few stores within close walking distance from the boat. I don't know if they still do this or not, but if you get to the North Carolina 'Welcome Center' which is located on the canal, and are planning to tie up for the night. The employees that work in the gift shop will gladly drive you down to Fort Mills to buy groceries. The welcome center promotes this and so they won't even accept money for this service. So be kind and buy something from their gift shop.

We were northbound but I can't say for certain that this was the bridge located on the northern end of the canal. I get the two confused. But as I am typing this, I went onto Google Maps and compared the location of the two bridge-houses, and now I'm pretty confident in saying that this is the upper bridge. It's been a couple of years that I made the trip.

This was taken on the Dismal Swamp Canal and If I'm not mistaken at the lift bridge on the upper end of the canal at a place called Deep Creek which is located in Virginia. The canal crosses the North Carolina and Virgina Borders.
