Cilynder head covers, rockers, head bolts, fuel lines and valve pushrods. All clean and marked so they don;t get mixed up during re-installation.

I always admire people who could do that. In spanish we call them "toderos". I think after many years of living in Seychelles, where resources for boats are so scarce, you have no other options than to become one. I'm certainly not quick. It takes me time to do things, mainly because I enjoy learning. Before I embark in a unknown project, I usually do a lot of reading and make sure I understand well the concepts. Not sure if this has to do with my formal training as a scientist, or just because I tend to be a perfectionist, and to get close to my self-imposed standards you need to understand well what you do. Regardless, when cruising you need to be as self-sufficent as possible, and the experiences you gain doing all these things by yourself are certainly the path to get there.

Yes, it will be good to know your engine. I used Nigel Calder's book (it is excellent) and the workshop manuals for my engine to figure things out. But sill, I had many questions and doubts of whether I was doing things right. Just before I mounted the head back, I had a friend, that is a professional diesel mechanic, come over and oversee what I was doing. I'm writing an entry for my blog with the experience, hopefully it'll help others.
