Last year's abundant rain fall allowed the masters of the reservoir to maintain the pool at a higher level than has been seen in a decade. The hilltop where this little cherry tree grows would normally be above water and provide a nice picnic spot for boaters. In this picture, the depth of the water at the base of the tree is nearly three feet. Now, with the water level in the lake lowered to form a catch basin for winter rains and melting snow (for flood control), the hilltop where this little tree stands is fifty feet above lake-level. The lake is still navigable, and still awesomely beautiful, but a sailor needs to stay in the main channel and be much more wary of rocks and shoals hidden just beneath the surface along the shores.
