Darn swine flu seems to be having an impact on tourism to Mexico.
How are things in Costa Rica?
Hope all is well and everyone stays healthy.
La Pura Vida should keep everyone safe.

Pete, if they are headed down during Easter week (Semana Santa) they will find a country that essentially shuts down and goes to the beach. Roads are clogged and very little service. Most everyone who can afford to leaves the country...but the surf still works! Just tell them to buy their drinks before they shut the bars for the holiday.

I've had a few friends and students of mine head to Costa Rica for surfing and some Spring Break action. I'm sure there's a big Pura Vida party all over Costa Rica.

And there was a national news story recently about the world's blue zones where people regularly live to 100 years old. One of them is on the Nicoya Peninsula. It showed a rural town where the people lived off the land, and traveled by walking or riding horses. What was evident was that they were very happy people living la vida pura!

Happy New Year to this special group of sailors!
It's finally good and cold here in Annapolis with ice on the creeks this morning.
We're heading to the ski slopes tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you all while I'm zipping down the mountain.
Another question about Puntarenas harbor. Is there a careenage there?
A careenage is a place where boats go at high tide, tie up the boat so it doesn't tip over, and when the tide goes out, that you then can work on the hull.
There seems to be almost 2m of tide to make a careenage work good.
