For a shake down cruise I was thinking that the Dry Tortugas would be a good run. Anyone been there? I would be sailing from Galveston and it seems like I would be a good tack each way.

I have crossed the gulf at least 8 times so it didn't seem that big a deal, BUT my mom made a good point last week that I should maybe do a Corpus Christi run instead. My mom lives in palacios (matagorda area) so if I need to pull into port for repairs I will have better resources nearby. It will be a harder run even though it is closer, don't like the bad lee shore, rigs going against the gulf stream etc etc, but maybe I will get a good weather window. I will be single handing so being close to the coast is a lot more work than heading out into the gulf for a long run towards the keys. Today I decided to have Ocean Girl in Australia by 2011 or 2012 :)
Thanks for the holding tank tip, I have a new 18 gal on order(fun).

the wind doesnt go the way ye wish it to go ---this year--an el nino yr, always in our face----was interesting and the trip is not to be missed--even with the wakky weather.....

Beautiful shots of the fort !. I like your door framed ones ! I figured that because the fort is so remote, it would be in bad shape.. Looks like they've done a good job of keeping it together !.. Thanks for the pictures.
