Where are you berthed and what boat do you have? Some marinas are better than others - some fin keelers draw too much to go lots of places in Galveston Bay.

I am in Bal Harbour, our marina got hammered by Ike so I am back in the canal and it is pretty shallow in there. Can I get everyone to put their water hose on in the lake in the morning until I can get out?
I kept Paloma at Bal Harbour many years ago, when they first built the hotel and the marina - good hurricane hole, but too many power boats and yes, at times the water is kind of thin. We moved the boat from there down to Bridge Harbor in Freeport - what an improvement. Deep water slips, one mile down the ICW, one mile out the jetties and you're in the Gulf.
Now we keep Paloma down in Corpus - lots of water there too.
