Hello,

I have noticed that some B40/B43 have a Wheel brake that can block the rudder if necessary. Others like ours doesn't have this.

If anyone has information about the brand and or the retrofit of a brake on the wheels I will try to adapt one if possible.

Thank you for your help and advice.

Hi Denis,

I have a lock only on the starboard helm.  You don't?

I've often wanted a lock on both wheels, so I hope someone has some good information here.

Clayton

Thank's Clayton,

On the starboard side would you have a picture. I don't even know if it is a Lewmar or Goiot system or other;

I would like to know if the modification is just the nut on the wheel or the axis or a combination.

Is there a difference between the french and american built B40/B43  for the steering system? Mine is from 2007 hull number 77 french built.

Denis

Hope we will get some information.

My wheel caps say "Goiot" and my B40 was built in Marion, SC, hull #93.  I'll take a peak next week at each.

I think earlier boats (up to sometime in 2008) that were built in Europe were not fitted with wheel locks whereas later boats were fitted with a clamping lock on the s/b wheel.  I asked my dealer about retro-fitting the lock and he quoted me about £350.00 for the components.  At this point I bought a few meters of line and a knot book at a total cost of £11!

For what it's worth my 2008 43, hull 001 has a Goit system with brakes on both wheels.
Mike

Hello Mike,John and Clayton,

Thanks for your answer would you have a picture so I can show the dealer in Spain. Is it the wheel or the system that is different ?  I felt the line system to block is not that effective and it clutters the deck.

Denis
