Generator for Beneteau 40 or 43. The best place for the best (reliable) generator.

Hello,

I hope you are all having a good Xmas.

I am in the process of installing a compact generator in my Beneteau 43 3 cabin layout. The two generators I am thinking of is the Paguro or Mestervolt. This will complete a second alternator kit from yachtwork I still have not received and new solar panels from solara with MPP regulator.. With the 600Ah slim line batteries and the watermaker we will be able to keep away from crowded marinas in the Med in the summer.

After a lot of thinking with a fake generator made of cardboard. I think the best place is between the two aft cabins back near the rear. There is about half the height. This will need a little wood work with sound insulation similar to the standard beneteau arrangement over the raw water filter more in front in the aft cabin on port.

Do you know if you can buy the matching ALPI wood panels to make custom add ons by a local carpenter ?

Thank you for any suggestions on wood or generator.

Hello,

I am keeping this thread alive responding to myself ???

I noticed that there is a second outflow with stopcock and return in the diesel tank that seems perfect for the generator. Has aybody used this ?

Here is a picture of where I am thinking of puting the generator and modifying the separartion panel between the two aft cabins.

Hi Foster
I installed a Webasto Air Top 2000 diesel air heater in the rear starboard locker and connected it to the second outlet on the fuel tank. It looks ideal to me for a generator.

Here is the situation for the generator.

So you will lose some space in the after cabine .... ???? And the noise is in the boat ??? Are you sure of that ?
Hello Alain,

I hope your problems about gelcoat and other have been solved.

The space "lost" on each side is minimum and it is where the feet are. It stays at half height so the volume vision impression is not important. This way we can have a good sound insulation foam added to the capsule of the generator. The weight will be well centered and quite low. We can put an antivibration sole since it will be flat. The maintenance access will be excellent and I will try to keep the emergency handle start if I can. I wanted to keep as much locker space as possible for the staysail and spinaker, Brompton bicycle and diving gear. The generator will have it own automatic extinguisher. Like the Yanmar.

Nevertheless thank you for your comments that I had in mind; I saw how the generator was installed in a XC42 from X yachts. (They use a Panda). This pushed me to explore this installation site. And I think I will go for the Mastervolt Whisper3,5M that is well integrated with the Mass Combi 2500/100 for boosting the peak output.

I will be very cautious on the fuel lines and the raw water filter installation for easy winterising.

If you have other ideas they are welcome.

You have chosen the best place regarding the weight balance for the 3 room Oceanis. We have the 2 bedrooms version, and we have the washing machine, fuel reserve, and food storage in the oposite op our generator. By the way, i just asking myself at how many degrees I would can incline my Paguro when it is functioning underway.

Hi to you,

I have the same boat. Oc 43 with 3 cabins. Would like to install Panda 4000s genset. It has more or less similar dimensions with mastervolt 3.5 or Paguro 4000.

I would like to know is there any way to install this genset without wood work between two aft cabin? I dont want to loose space...

Thanks advance for your helps..

Hello,

I had in the begining the same aprehension doing the wood work as you have.

Finally the wood work was simple and we reinforced its connection with the structural hull.

That space is good for a generator. Mastervolt has stopped manufacturing generators although they make an all in one generator charger inverter that is mechanicaly very similar.

I chose Mastervolt since all our electricity is integarted by a masterbus. It works well. If I didn't have that I would of chosen the Paguro 4000i.

The space in the cabin is not lost since it is where your feet are and its 24 cm on each side access for servicing is great as you can see from pictures. The noise level is suprisingly low with antivibration plate and water seperator and good foam.

The generator has improved our ability to avoid marinas in the med with the watermaker and the batteries 600AH.

I know some boats have replaced the rear water tank by an equivalent fuel tank. Total capacity 400L. And rely on the watermaker for the reduced water tank in the front cabin.

If you want I can send you more pictures on a private mail box.

Have a good day

Yes, the place where we have put it. in this cace you should better reinforce the little tablet an put the Gen. on additional silent blocs ( we are going to do this, this summer because the vibration noise is louder than the real noise of the Gen.

Dear Foster,
