SeaKnots

Hi   I am in the process of installing a generator in my Ben 40 two cabin, (upgrading to a Paguro 4000) as well as a single Cruisair 16,000 btu aircon in Saloon under settee near mast with a 100mm outlet into the forward cabin (probably through starboard wardrobe) and one about 150x250 outlet into the saloon.

Could anyone let me know where the inlet seacock would normally be located for the forward aircon? Also any suggestions as to where to locate cold air outlet into saloon?

I have noticed some of the internal seawater strainers for generators seem to be cast bronze or stainless steel with a clear top plate, does anyone know who makes these, they look much stronger than the plastic ones?  Thanks David

Hi David
We own a 2008 B43 and the seawater inlet for our 16000 and 10000 btu heat/ac units is in the salon just in front of the port side sette and about one to two feet before stepping into forward berth. The seawater pump filter is in this area as well. Had the boat out this winter and there is a metal (not sure of type but I think it is bronze) inlet cover for the Heat/AC system seawater inlet.
Our salon heat/ac discharge duct is just behind the starboard sette in the shelf. There is another air discharge outlet in the forward cabin on the starboard side mounted high on the wall. This one is, in my opinion, not in a good location. Our unit's blower stays on as long as there is power to the unit. Thus you can have cold air blowing across the berth when the heat pump is not active. I would recommend that you locate the duct so discharged air is not blowing directly onto the bed and its occupants. The B43 has a 10000 btu unit for the rear berth and galley but the 16000btu unit is capable of cooling and heating our entire boat.
Enjoy

Yep. I agree with James 100% on every point. I couldn't have said it better!
Hi
Thanks for the information, but does anyone have any photos of the forward aircon seacock and raw water pump and also air outlets, particulatly for a B40.

I had a look today but it is difficult to see where to place the seacock as it seems you need to cut thought floor under seat and it doesn't appear possible in the B40's to route air outlet to starboard shelf.

I will try to take photos this weekend while at the boat. We have the 43. The flexible hose / duct routes along the stbd settee. You have to lift the floor board to get to the seacock.
James, if these are the same units I have on my 2008 b43 you can program the fan to run all the time when power is on or only when the compressor is running. I have it run all the time in the summer and only with the compressor in the winter during heating cycle.
Sam, that's good news. I didn't know you could program the unit. Guess I should have read the book eh? :)
Thanks Sam!!!
Soon as we go to the boat I will check out the owners manual and hopefully make the adjustment. Having that fan run all night is less than ideal and it would be nice to control it.
James
Hope you all are enjoying your boats so far this season!
Read the ac/heat manual and made the change in programing and guess what?
It worked.
Our fan goes off when the compressor goes off on fwd and aft units.
Thanks again
James
Hi
I have finally installed my generator and it works well and I am now about to install a Cruseair 16kBTU aircon in saloon.

Can anyone with a Beneteau 40 (two cabin) send me a photo of layout of air conditioner unit and ducting to saloon and front cabin? From the photos of the 40's I have seen, there seems to be two grills in the saloon settee. I assume with outlet towards mast and return duct under table. Is this correct?

Also how does ducting go through forward dressing table cupboard?
The 43’s seem to have a different layout with outlet in settee shelf.
Thanks David

Why are hubcaps less common on modern vehicles?

Hubcaps, which are attached directly to the wheel and rim assembly, are less frequently seen on modern vehicles.
