I have a 67 cal 34 that has a broken mast. it happened this weekend while we were sailing. There is no damage to the deck or hull but the mast is in 2 parts now.

We are looking for a replacement or a solution. Any advice?

if we cannot get a mast we will sell the Atomic 4 (moyer marine rebuilt). this is our 4th season and it has 100 hours. we have fresh water cooling. I don't know if anyone is intersted in the hull. it sails great and is very solid.

I was waiting for the yahoo moderator to approve me. I will post shortly. I am also looking for other cal groups on the net.

If I decide not to fix it, I may see if someone wants to buy the boat and atomic 4. the hull is in great shape and I have both parts of the mast. I just don't know if I want to deal with this now.
It may depend on where the mast broke. If it is near the deck I know that you can get an insert that fits inside the base and the upper section, and have the pieces welded by a TIG welder.
the mast broke under the spreaders. after it fell, part was on the deck and about a 3rd was in the water on the port side. we thought the s/b spreader failed but on closer inspection, it seems ok. also none of the stays or shrouds failed...

Some people mentined ading a sleve and welding it...we woudl lose some of the length as they cut it down, but I wasn't sure how strong it would be after.
there is someone on another forum with same problem--unless that is you!!---there were answers supplied regarding an internal sleeve---even the use of a street sign as the inner sleeve, welded or riveted in--it might be sailboat owners.com ----goood luck-----
I posted to some other cal forums. I did notice someone with a cal 20 or cal 22 that had a similar mast problem... not sure if it broke or was damaged...
Talk to a rigger. They'll let you know what can be done and at what cost.

Our mast came from the factory as 2 pieces put together with a sleeve. Its been that way for 25 years so I would think a repair like that would be fine.
