Hello, I am so happy I have found all of you. We are in desperate need of a heat exchanger for our Formosa diesel engine. We have contacted everyone we can think of and no luck Our sailboat is a Formosa 1972 Ketch , made in Taiwan with the motor made in England. The heat exchanger has seen better days and we even looked into recasting it but because of years of neglect it is beyond repair. We would like to have a new one made using the old one as a pattern. Or find a replacement for it. The boat is in Olympis Washington at the Westbay Marina. Captain Dave is flying out today to ponder on this (over a pint or 2) any help you could give us is greatly appreciated. Happy Sailing. Lynn

Sorry I could not be of help...Let us know what was your progress
Lynn, what make of motor is it, Perkins, Leyland, Ford, BMC, Thorneycroft? even if you only have the marinizers name it may help.
Robert
it is a perkins. We have a mechanic working on it now. Keeping our fingers crossed.!
If there is enough room, you might be able to use a generic stand alone heat exchanger. It doesn't have to be any specific make, so long as it has enough 'heat capacity'. It would only need to be connected to the engine by hoses.
This is exactly what we are trying now. Hope to be sailing by spring. Since I am new to this I am still not confrontable going out with just sails. There are too many foreign factors in the sound. Thanks so much for the suggestion. Admiral Lynn
Is the original heat exchanger the standard Perkins factory type, with a combined engine coolant and oil heat exchanger?
yes, for a 1972 formosa sea tiger. But so far we can not find a replacement and the factory in England does not make them anymore. Thanks for the inquire. Admiral Lynn
There are stock/standard heat exchangers for cooling available from any good supplier.
Do you have a photo of the damaged heat exchanger?
Try contacting Trans Atlantic Diesel in Virginia, Marcus Neville there specializes in Perkins parts

thank you, I will do that. Admiral Lynn
look into a boiler shop----i found one here in dago that will fabricate those for about 150 dollars-----mine is a 1976----what model is yours?? formosa, that is........good luck with the heat exchanger-----price may have gone up some for the fab job---it was a long time ago .....but look for boiler shops for large ships and the like----you will be surprised what they can do!!!!
