Welcome to Multi-hulls

How lucky I am to have selected a Hobie 18 for my first boat back in 1980. I went to buy a used sunfish and came home with a state of the art racing machine. It is hard for even me to believe I trailered it home behind my brown VW Super Beetle, then washed it every day for two weeks until I met someone who would show me the difference between the mast and the mainsail. Now, 28 years later I'm campaigning a Lindenberg 28 in a local women's series.

A Year of Sailing , , ,

Yea, we finished our first year together with a 3rd place overall. Indeed we formed a team that is destined to move into first place by the end of our 2nd year. Our original crewmembers Shelly, Sherrie R., Sherry Mac, Susan Jackson (first mate & team captain), and our very own Maryanne have weathered the storms of late starts, tacking with no warnings, spinnaker entanglements, bumping boats, and being boomed in the head. Boring is for . . .

Someone recently responded to a kid's complaining that a class was boring by stating, 'boring people are bored.' I understand the premise. On my list of concepts to research is now boredom. Perhaps people just substitute the word boredom for feeling lazy. Boredom seems to imply it is someone else's fault that one is not motivated to do anything, whereas lazy puts the responsibility on one's self. Home Sweet Home

And so my journey ends with the voice of John Denver echoing in my mind his refrain, "Gee it's good to be back home." Never before have I felt so connected to my sister and brothers, my sailing friends and neighbors and my colleagues at work. Internet keeps kicking me off. Everytime I start to respond specifically to Jane, Scott, Lola, and Sonia I get a message that says I either opened or closed a new tab and walla kazaam suddenly everything goes away. Memory Improvement

So I am sitting at the bar of the Anchor's Away Cafe in North Myrtle Beach; alone but content to just daze over my chicken quesadilla. Good judgement

This morning I was mad that I used good judgement and stayed on the ICW; but T-G I did not go outside. This afternoon I am having a pity party because the motor kept shutting off, the wind is howling at 25, I'm tied to a dock and not feeling very secure as the fenders keep popping off; I barely made it to this dock but it's on my lee side, so I'm having to sit with my feet pressing against the boat when the North Carolina power boaters seem to think going full throttle is some kind of fun.… Continue

Sailor's Demise

Well, here I am in Beaufort, North Carolina. About a month ago I was in Wrightsville, North Carolina, doing as I am at this moment--carefully checking the weather forecast. My plan to sail the coast along this route was cancelled due to a northeast wind as I headed toward Norfolk.Now, the night before I want to head toward home, southwest from Beaufort to Wrightsville, all forecasters are telling me the wind will be S/SW.

We are docked at the Elizabeth City Municipal Marina. which is not exactly as described in the Waterway Guide. Perhaps the authors never spent time in Lowell, Massachusetts. People, not places

We all know the cliche, it's not the place it is the people. So, it is that my plans to make Sandy Hook were changed when I learned (a) that my #1 sister, Jane and my #1 Sea Knots friend, Suki would meet me at Chesapeake City, (b) that my boss was able to hire my favorite couseling colleague to start the school year with me, and (c) that my husband really does worry about it. Coinjock, North Carolina

Now, who would have guessed that Sammy and I would be having lunch, acting like Sherry in a wi-fi cafe, and taking a deep breath in hopes of crossing the Chesapeake in two days; probably 3 the rate I'm going. :-) Lots of time to conjure up good ideas. Who would a thunk?

So, here I am with my pup, My Lady (aka Sammy) in South Harbor Marina just shy of the Cape Fear River which I expect to transit tomorrow. Apparently there was a movie about it and it is probably a good thing I didn't see it. Although the name certainly conjures up a bit of anticipatory anxiety. Whew, and yea

Yea, I made it to St. Augustine on the ICW unscathed, relaxed and happy. There is internet at the St. Augustine Municipal Marina but I keep getting bumped off. Had a nice serendiptious experience when I picked up my friend Sandi (c-shore) at the Halifax Sailing Center in Daytona. So I'm going to be short with my writing. 5/31/09 -- finish last minute details
6/1/09 -- Estimated time of departure from Melbourne Yacht Club; anchor on west side of Port Canaveral locks
6/2/09 -- mozy over to Port Canaveral Yacht Club -- spend day and meet with Karen M for last minute assistance
6/3/09 --first light, hopefully seas are a mere 1 - 2 feet and take a pleasant sail up to Ponce Inlet; spend the night and next day
6/4/09 -- begin next leg

Where have I been?

Fear creeps in. . .

With less than 30 days until departure, I am finally getting nervous. Daily thoughts pop into my head like,

"What if you hit something and the mast falls down cracking the deck?"

"What if I have a bad dream that a giant shark slid into the cockpit and snaps my arm off while I sleep on deck?"

Two loves, , ,

Don't you just hate having to give up something you love for something else you want? It's that same old Tony Robbins theory on instant versus delayed gratification. I don't mind delaying happiness as long as I don't have to give up something I like. Take the annual Melbourne Yacht Club's spring regatta.
