I have an Oday 28 called My Boat sitting right next to ESPAHTAL the Formosa. Just got a new Betamarine british motor (or KUBOTA) and it is just a rocket upwind. We are in Puerto Azul Port Puntarenas Costa Rica.

That's my next item to check. I would think the stainless steel cap would unscrew from the thru-hull. It appears the cap may have a screen inside it, maybe that's what's clog up.
Even with that, I'm still going to change out the vent hose. Its an old clear PVC hose and I'm sure its due for a replacement.

I've never heard of it.
It is also possible that the vent itself could be plugged.. I have no idea of how to check that except maybe try to run a wire into it.
nauticalrich, I do have a holding tank vent on the port side of my boat. Its not located in the optimal position, as it requires about a four foot run of hose that has a sharp angle up to the vent. I'm going to try to replace the hose first and if that isn't any better, then I'll think about locating a second vent up near the bow.
I read in another forum that some people increase the size of their vent hoses, either 3/4" ID or 1" ID. They must use a mushroom thru-hull because the standard vent thru-hull (holding tank & fuel) only comes in 5/8".
Have you ever heard of anyone adding a vent, one on the front of the tank and the other on the aft end?

John you should already have a vent on the outside of the boat. Looking at your picture of your boat, you have one already there. I have two on the port side of my boat. One is for the fresh water tank and one is for the holding tank. If you don't have a fresh water tank on that side then most likely it is the vent for the holding tank. Check it out before drilling holes.
nauticalrich, I went over to Odayowners.com and got some good info from Peggy Hall. I should buy her book, she is a wealth of information. Thanks for the tip.
It turns out my holding tank vent system is wrong and needs to be reconfigured. Now I just have to find a place that can supply me with some good hose. I may have to install a new through hull vent. I'm not sure I like the idea of drilling a hole in my hull, so I'll have to get up the courage to do that.
