Always good news and not so good news, that makes us sailors

Well, I finally installed a ICOM-700 SSB in S/V "Anna Lynn" and am really proud of my installation. Several weeks ago I applied and received my FCC License in the mail, and today I got on the air to check everything out. It sounds like everything was working really great, communicated with a fellow somewhere in upper Minnesota however, I got really embarrassed when he started telling me my liciense sounded like the license plate from my car, and that I was talking on a HAM frequency and it was against the law and I could be fined. To say the least this guy was not helpful at all. I was wondering, what does a normal USA SSB liciense looks like, mine has three letters followed by four numbers, and am I permitted to transmit in the .3-30Mz as programed in my radio, oh well, looks like something else to research this week, but it's great completing something you have never done before. Maybe next a HAM license????

"Auto ascending setup is an interesting idea, though it takes a bit of fiddling around to get it right. Once it's dialed in, it actually works quite well."

"Michael, From experience over three keel boats a fully battened main is almost a requirement. Not only will it make dropping the sail into the boom bag far easier it certainly reduces any flogging and vastly lengthens the life of the sail. While…"
