Lifelong sailor at heart. Currently without a boat.
Born and raised in Mobile, AL, I always loved the Gulf of Mexico and dreamed of seeing the world from the deck of my own boat. Landed in Oregon by way of Louisiana, Michigan and the SF Bay area.
Current location:
United States
Destinations visited:
Over the years I have sailed Mobile Bay, Galveston Bay, Lake Michigan, Lake Pontchartrain, San Diego Bay, Flathead Lake, Puget Sound and the Columbia River. All on other people's boats... friends, relatives, rentals or charters.
Looking to:
Short Term: Buy a trailerable sailboat (24-26 feet) in the next couple of years and spend a few years experiencing the variety of sailing venues in the northwest and gaining confidence/experience.
Long Term: Sell our land-based dwelling and buy a larger sailboat, then spend a few years getting it cruise-ready. Plan to cast off the docklines for an extended cruise. How long? I guess as long as health and finances hold out, and it's still fun. Expect to stop in interesting places to work for a while along the way.
HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME ON YOUR BOAT AND CAN EXPERIENCE ALL YOU DREAM OF. YOU STILL LOOK GREAT AND YOU SEEM TO BE VERY BLESSED. JUST WANTED TO SAY HI...(I SAW YOUR PIC AND THOUGHT I WOULD SAY HELLO. THE GRAND BABIES ARE SO PRECIOUS WISH YOU COULD SEE THEM MORE OFTEN YOU WOULD BE SO PROUD. TAKE CARE.

"Auto ascending setup is an interesting idea, though it takes a bit of fiddling around to get it right. Once it's dialed in, it actually works quite well."
"Michael,
From experience over three keel boats a fully battened main is almost a requirement.
Not only will it make dropping the sail into the boom bag far easier it certainly reduces any flogging and vastly lengthens the life of the sail. While…"
