About Me:
I am a sailor and cyclist, on a world-wide mission to promote alternative methods of transportation. I refuse to take airplanes, cars, trucks, trains, buses, or ferries. I quit my job (bike mechanic) and left my hometown of Madison, Wisconsin, on Sept 15 2007, and have been making my slow way around the world ever since. The goal is to sail and cycle all the way back to Madison one day.
I love cats, and bikes, and sailing; beer and wine and good food; adventure and hardship, living with uncertainty; art and writing and reading. I am spiritual but not religious, polite with a bit of ruggedness to me as well, non-judgemental and easy-going.
I have STCW certs and a good bit of experience sailing, but I am very interested to improve my skills - I know I will be sailing for the rest of my life, so the more I sail the better!
Current location:
Zadar, Croatia
Destinations visited:
Sailed from Miami to Antigua for the Classic Sailing Yacht Regatta in 08. Crossed from Antigua to the Acores, then to Falmouth, England.

Cycled in : Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Georgia, Florida; Antigua, Portuguese Acores, England, Wales, Ireland, N. Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia. And Mexico.

But it isn't really about the destination....

Looking to:
I am in Croatia right now looking to join up for some sailing fun in the Adriatic. Eventually my hope is to land in Italy to continue cycling, but I don't actually have any plans - isn't it more adventurous that way?

Love it Charles...follow your dreams and ideals...someone in this world needs to. I love to cycle to and have two years ago began to sail in the hope to be able to go cruising someday. I could trade the cats for dogs though!!
Keep at it ...

"Auto ascending setup is an interesting idea, though it takes a bit of fiddling around to get it right. Once it's dialed in, it actually works quite well."
