Here comes the old Yanmar 2GM 20F.
Still waiting to order a new Yanmar 3YM20. Delays are blamed on holiday vacation time at the distributor. Estimates are 2 to 3 weeks before installation will be complete. Follow my blog as to how SPRAY and I spent our days anticipating a beautiful cruise.

What's your gut feeling of "reasonable"?

Comment by Marlene Anne Sassaman on December 29, 2013 at 3:05pm

Hi Larry,

Thank you for inquiring. One theory with the stoppage of the 2GM is that sea water got into the exhaust elbow. Supposedly the inside of the 'cast iron' elbow rusted. I'm not 100% certain, except that when we disconnected the elbow it was wet inside the rubber hose that attached to it.  Getting it rebuilt by a reliable mechanic here is dicey. Considering that the boat is 'my home' and I plan to go cruising, breaking my budget for a new engine will hopefully bring peace of mind. Thankfully, I have someone believed to be competent willing to install it. Although delayed due to the holidays, it is expected a 3YM30 will be ordered tomorrow. The ordeal reminds me of Hal Roth's theory about buying a well balanced sailing boat that keeps you out of boat yards.....

Be that as it may selling the old 2GM for a reasonable price would make my day.

Marlene, What was the problem with the 2GM20? is it rebuildable?
