Human Respiratory Tract Model for Radiological Protection. This report describes a revision of the model used in ICRP Publication 30 to calculate radiation doses to the respiratory tract of workers resulting from the intake of airborne radionuclides. This revision was motivated by the availability of increased knowledge of the anatomy and International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has developed several biokinetic models over the years to describe the transfer of activity throughout the body and through routes of excretion. The chronic model for 239,240 Pu shows that calculated/measured ratios for pulmonary lung are 0.95 and 1.3 for ICRP 30 and ICRP 66, respectively. The ratio for the bronchial tree is not possible because 239,240 Pu could not be detected in the tissue samples. The ovcrall affect is that the 50 year committed lung dose associated with the ICRP 66 model is 25% higher than the ICRP 30 model. 1 ICRP-2 was mentioned in the body of the Commission paper but not included in this comparison because it was fundamentally diffe rent than the other reports. The external limit for occupational workers was 5(N-18) rem, where N=the worker's age.
