What is a normal PCV reading? Published data from Europe and North America indicate that for non-iron-deficient adult Caucasian males, the normal mean packed cell volume (PCV) is 0.46 and the 2.5-97.5 percentile interval is 04.0-0.53 . Corresponding values for adult Caucasian females are: mean PCV 0.42; 2.5-97.5 percentile interval 0.36-0.48. filexlib. In-house PCV (packed cell volume) or HCT (hematocrit) testing is a quick and easy test to measure the level of anemia or dehydration. How do you read a PCV with a Microhematocrit reader? To measure a packed cell volume (PCV) a microhematocrit tube is filled with blood, centrifuged and then the red blood cell column is measured. To perform the latter, the top of the plasma column and bottom of the red blood cell column are lined up on the 100% and 0% lines.
The TP is measured by breaking the hematocrit tubes (once the PCV is determined) following centrifugation, and placing the plasma directly onto the

How do you read a PCV result? The PCV test can measure how much of the blood consists of cells. If the PCV results show a reading of 50%, it denotes that 50 ml of cells is present in exactly 100 ml of blood . If the RBC (Red Blood Cell) number increases, then the total reading of the PCV will also be up.

To obtain the PCV reading place the capillary tube either onto a reader card or into the tube holder on a Hawksley haematocrit reader (see slideshow below).
To read the PCV , align the base of the blood in the column ( above the sealant ) with 0 line and the bottom of the meniscus of the plasma with 100 line . The reading point is the top of the red cell column , just below the buffy coat layer ( consisting WBCs and platelets ) .

Read the PCV from the right hand side scale. In this case it is 41%. 1) Place the capillary tube onto the haematocrit reader.
