gooseneck pin loss

I was walking by my friend's B40 and heard his boom "squeaking" with relatively little boat motion. Looking closer I found the pin that attaches the boom to the mast was gone. It had fallen down and out.It is held in place by a small screw that enters from the backside and goes into an indentation that prvents the pin from falling through. Turns out there is a through hole about halway up that a cotter pin can be added to to prvent loss. Here is a picture of the US Spar pin.
