Engine raw water impeller change

I will be changing my impeller soon, as part of preventive maintenance. Any tricks or things learned that I could benefit from?

Yanmar makes a little extractor that can help. But I never used it since the change of impeller is done during anual maintenance by the yard; I have it on board with impellers in case of failure;

i just changed my raw water impeller. I noticed that the replacement impeller did not have the threads that the installed one had (on the ID outward facing) so investigated. Yanmar has updated the impeller to the one with the threads. There is a small removal / extractor tool that essentially is a bolt with a center stud that screws onto the impeller and allows very easy back out of the impeller. The tool costs about $25 and is very straightforward.

Sam, If I understand your post correctly the new style impeller has a threaded center? To change it you run the bolt into the center which then pushes the impeller out? Sounds like a simple but effective way of getting the job done. I'll have to take a look at my spare impeller.
