Don't do anything to damage your mast. Make a bridle and tie it to your two forward cleats to balance the load. Make the Y long enough to be well forward of your bow sprit
Thats how I have been towed. Yesterday the engine broke down on way to boatyard for engine work, and my 2 sailor friends mentioned on the mast,,,and i said No had been done on front cleats before. I Use Boat US. I have gotten different opinions.

Lets see what this brings in this Discussion.

Thank you.
Yes we had to anchor for 45 min..it was a long tow...we were careful to follow carefully..we were lucky to be in the ICW as tows don't come to your slip to deliver someplace for repair It was US BOAT..TOW

Problem is my injectors and other problems ongoing w dirty fuel...I'm insisting now to have the tank removed and power washed till squeeky clean...please reply to my new discussion on Fuel additives...I heard Biobor is Bad...read on line.

Thank you Bill on your comments.
Cleats for sure. The towing industry uses nylon, as it will strech and act as a shock absorber. But if it does break, look out!
thank you...good point
I would never, ever use the mast for towing. If i didn't think my cleats were strong enough to do the job, would find a way to run lines back to winches or something. Cleats are designed for that type of a load, winches are designed for that type of load, the mast is not. Particularly if a deck stepped mast. Cleats should be backed up and plenty strong enough to do the job.
