How did you name your boat? I am always curious about how people name their boat and if there is a story behind it. After seeing all of the names on this site, I am looking forward to hearing the stories...So, If you have a boat how did you come up with the name?

we named it for the method of acquisition: press "Submit" on Ebay! Besides, as a person who loves puns, "Submit" can heve many meanings

My actual Elan 333 is the Rdeci Lev and means red lion, like our flag is the red lion an in Slovenian language is Rdeci Lev

The next will be rds like my name in many German Sailing Forums

Rds means : Résidence du soleil (The sun residence)
Our boat is Sea Fox. Our last name is Foxworthy so we wanted something with "fox" in it. My younger stepson is a submariner so it is also a tribute to a highly decorated submarine named Sea Fox. Also the beautiful thresher shark is alopias vulipinas - sea fox.

I often wonder about some boat names including the one we saw at So. Dartmouth, MA called "Big Bottom Girls"
I bought my 26 mac from the family of the original owner. he had passed away. i met him a few times. He named it "KISSIN BANDIT" after the lady that ran out on baseball fields and kissed players. I kept the name.
With such history, you can't change a name like that ! :-) So now, do you swim to other boats at anchorages and kiss the ladies? lol-just kidding.

I hadn't heard of this before but found this link on wikipedia about it. Thanks for sharing!

Kissin Bandit
That will certainly be fitting, the sun residence. Wait you're already thinking of your next boat name, wow!

I have always liked the idea of once the lines are cast off, you are escaping to your own world.

I'm naming my Cape Dory 25 (with the required ritual of course) "Elabor" which is latin for 'escape' or 'to slip away'....
I feel the same way anytime I am out sailing. The name says it all! Great choice-
Back in the 60's, at my mom's beheist, my dad named his black-hulled, Hinckley B40 "Lola." It came from a line in the musical Damn Yankees, "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets". She said it fit the love and $$$ my dad showered on that damn boat:
Ha ha-There is always a good story behind the naming of a boat. Thanks for sharing, I needed a good laugh today.
what is the button you push on Ebay in early February in the frozen north on a Friday evening after a long week and two glasses of wine when the auction is about to end on a beautiful version of a perfect next sailboat?
ESCAPE!
