I attended the Paris boat show and saw a new B43 that had an additional storage unit in the forward cabin. It is on the stbd side just forward of the head. It provides a lot of storage in what is otherwise unused space. I queried Benteau USA and found the unit is available. The installation would require a small bit of cutting and fitting, but may be worth it. I took a few pictures of the unit.

YES! I looked into the lack of storage in the front cabin when I visited the factory 2 years ago and came up with a way to purchase another cabinet like the one on the port side and adapt it to fit right next to it. I was quoted just short of $800 plus installation and asked to wait 4-6 weeks. We found that too expensive and complicated so we abandoned the idea.

But then we noticed the cabinet you just saw on the starboard side in the Moorings 4 cabin version at the Annapolis boat show and thought about doing the same thing. However, by that time it was already too late for us as we were already getting ready to start our extended cruise.

I wonder how much the parts and installation of the starboard cabinet you saw would cost, though.

Do you have any quotes?
The parts quote was approx $930. That plus some shipping and some extra hardware (mounting screws, blocks etc.).
Sam, thanks again for the info. The extra cabinet would be a definate plus and worth the money. It doesn't look like it would be too difficult to install either. Looks like it will get added to my wish list :)

Hello Sam,

I would like to install the starboard side optional cabinet. Would you know the reference number ?

Have you actually installed this cabinet or know someone who has done it ?

Thank's.

Denis

Here is the number as provided by Beneteau -Marion, South Carolina.

Part Number  WM001144   $931.55 This is about one year old information, so the price may have changed.  have not purchased or installed. I have not seen one installed other than the one I saw at the Paris boat show December 2009.

If you install or have it done I would appreciate hearing your experience and seeing the outcome.

Thank you for such a quick reply. I am going to ask Beneteau. Usually in France they don't even answer.
Sam, thanks for sharing. At this year's Annapolis show we noticed the US version now has the same cabinet. It's something we'd definately be interested in.
Hello,

I hope you are all having a good Xmas.

Do you know if you can buy the matching ALPI wood panels to make custom add ons by a local carpenter ?

I am in the process of installing a compact generator in my Beneteau 43 3 cabin layout.. After a lot of thinking with a fake generator made of cardboard. I think the best place is between the two aft cabins back near the rear. This will need a little wood work similar to the standard beneteau arrangement over the raw water filter more in front. This will jus take around 20cm of foot bed space on each side. The servicing will be easy.

So if someone has some idea on how to get some ALPI wood panels that would help.

Denis

Denis, it should be available. Try contacting your dealer or Beneteau.
Hi Mike,

The problem is I am still waiting for an order for the cabinet miror of the forward shower for 18 months. Going through the local dealer is not very efficient.Usually Beneteau does not even respond to mails or emails. Customer satisfaction is not the same on both sides of the pond...
Denis, sorry to hear you've been waiting so long. Beneteau is so responsive in the US that I assumed they would be the same all over. I know of a couple of people that have had custom woodwork done and you wouldn't know it wasn't from the factory. I'm afraid I don't have details as to where they sourced the wood. Hopefully you can find someone in your area that is capable of doing the same for you. Good luck.
Mike
