Second set of lessons on the way

Posted on June 3, 2009 at 3:48pm 3 Comments

Well, I just signed up for the next set of classes, ASA 105, 106. These deal with advanced coastal navagation and we will make a passage from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Bimini in the Bahamas. I will be doing these classes by myself, as my Dad said he has learned enough and I can show him anything else he needs to learn. I will admit, 4 courses with 4 exams in 5 days was almost too much. He has had enough of classes and I am very proud of him. He did not get sick and he studied like a trooper.… Continue

Finally on the boat here in Ft. Lauderdale...

OK, here we had been trying to get out of the slip since 8am this morning. Started on a Beneteau 393 due to a bad starter solenoid relay on our cat. It rained very very heavy with frequent lightning this morning here in Ft Lauderdale from 0830 to about 1145. The weather started clearing up and we thought our cat would be ready, but it did not get released from the mechanic until 1600 today..too late to provisionj and leave out for south Miami. So, night two in the marina...We are to to leave… Continue

Begin my sailing life.....NOW

Posted on May 21, 2009 at 12:25pm 4 Comments

My Dad and I are on the way down to Ft Lauderdale to be onboard a cat for our first series of 3 lesson sets. We are to be at the marina by 3pm 5/23/09. I hope Dad does not get seasick (he does have a prescription patch to wear). I will be fine and am looking forward to the adventure. I have been keeping up with all the blogs and comments that I can and appreciate everyones encouragement and help. I enjoyed talking to L O L A recently, but can't seem to reach her lately. She is a few steps ahead… Continue

This weekend was filled with helping a non-profit charity that I have been helping every week for over a year....The Ronald McDonald House Charities...If you do not know, they provide housing and a life for families that are dealing with kids under the age of 18 that have life threatning conditions. Most kids here are being treated at Duke University Medical Center (here in Durham, NC). It is very rewarding helping them and even when I live on a sailboat, I will try and organize boaters and… Continue

First Blog....By the way...Who the hell named it a blog :-)

OK, here goes. I am taking lessons in May to begin my sailing life....Taking ASA courses in Ft. Lauderdale at BWSS. I eventually take all courses offered and hopefully find someone who has a cat that will let me join them for a month or so and help me learn what I want and then it's off to buy one I hope. My picture is me and my Dad, my best friend. He is taking the first classes with me and if he likes it and does not get too seasick, maybe he will take all of them with me....He is pretty… Continue

Wonderful to see the two of you doing something together.
Wow.. what memories these will be for both of you in the years to come.
Hope you had a blast together .. wish my son was into sailing, but he's not.
Missing out on making memories..
