Polaris is a fantastic boat. Jim Taylor, native of Marblehead Mass, got a lot of things right when designing this boat. Very light, and designed to race in the IMS handicap. One of the masts we have for this boat is hinged at the deck, so when you go down wind, you can ease the runners to allow the center of effort move forward, thus (in theory) the boat will track better downwind. We only used the conventional mast. We sold the boat recently. The boat was donated to the Naval Academy Sailing Foundation by Dan Meyer who names all his boats "NUMBERS".
