A sad fall day...

Comment by Mark (Voodoo Acrobat) on April 15, 2011 at 11:04am

Mac,

I'm very glad to hear you're getting better and that you'll be launching this season!  From the photos yours is the finest looking Bayfield I've seen and it deserves to be sailed.  I was going to get started on my bottom painting, etc. last weekend, but instead took care of the yard work at home so I can go to the marina guilt-free.  This weekend's weather isn't looking very good, so I probably won't get the job done before Easter.  Oh well.  It's still early.

I actually did a "drive-by" of your marina last season just to find out where it was.  I was surprised to see that little community tucked away behind all of industrial and railroad stuff!  It looks like a cozy place to keep a boat.

Thanks for the reply, Mac.  I look forward to seeing you on the water soon!

Mark, I do not remember if I responded to your note of 8/2/2010, some of the problems with the hit on my head but the good news for me is it looks like I am getting better and going to put the Bayfield in the water in a month.

Thanks for the sailing invite last year even though I did not take you up on it. Back in the late 1970's I had my old sail boat at Meinle's West on the Cooley Canal. Maybe some time this summer we can meet up with the boats. If you ever want to visit Harbor View Yacht Club let me know and I will take you as a guest.

Mac,

I'm so sorry to hear you were hurt. Are you still at Harbor View? I'm just down the road a bit at Meinke's. If you want to get out on the water, please let me know. I'd be happy to host you on my Westerly. Any of my friends will tell you that I've never let a little brain damage stop me from having a good time! lol

It's a shame your beautiful Bayfield may have to go, but I'm certain she will sell quickly. (I'm drooling a bit.) I can tell from your photos that she's a well-loved yacht.

All the best,

Mark

There has been no sailing for me this year. 2 days after I launched the boat I fell and had a brain concussion and some brain damage. I fear that I will have to put the Bayfield up for sale this fall.

Just checking in to knock the cob webs off of this page. I've been sailing as much as I can this season, but it's nowhere near enough! Work, and life in general sometimes gets in the way. I am enjoying my new marina (Meinke's near Curtice, Oh) quite a bit. Nice folks, lots of sailors, and close to fun stuff. All I need now is a little more wind!! Spent the night last night aboard and tried to sail in the evening and again in the morning. Very, very light winds. Still, being on the boat is always nice.

Ok. I'm officially jealous that many of you are sailing. I took the day off from work to go to the marina and catch up to you. If all goes well, I'll have my bottom done today and be able to launch this weekend.

HAH! I don't drink and sail. I wait until the anchor is down.

I suspected it shakes the boat. That would keep me awake.

There is a Gemini in my marina, but I haven't met the owner yet.

thanks for the link. Here's one for you.

Buddy and Melissa Stockwell have just ended their cruising life. He is a good writer, and lots of pix as well. I followed them for the last year and found it both informative and interesting reading.

That would depend on how much rum you have on board! I've heard that some people are able to sleep thru this noise but it also shakes the whole boat. I'd have trouble sleeping thru it. There are people that live aboard these Geminis and people that have and are sailing around the world, so it can't be that bad. http://www.theslapdash.com I've been following several blogs all winter.

Bridge deck noise.
If you were on your way to the Abacos, would the bridge deck noise keep you from sleeping? Is it disturbing?
