Suky wrote that shutter lag is a problem in cheap digital cameras. above are reviews of cheap dslr and a $109 point and shoot. I think the newer camers are better. you can stop by a camera shop or best buy and try it yourself.

I've always maintained that it's the person pushing the shutter (and choosing the subject and framing the composition and post processing it in an editing program) that makes the difference not the camera. Granted it you want to blow it up poster size or publish in a magazine then you may need a bigger faster prettier camera. I think most of the newer point and shoot cameras have fixed the shutter lag problem but haven't checked for sure. If your camera has that, you just need to plan ahead. Not the best for action shots.
If you want a good deal on a good camera go to craigslist, many unfortunate victims of this economy are suffering and the camera is one of the first things to go. As always "let the buyer beware". Bring your laptop - shoot some pics - download and check them out (run the camera's gambit) before plunking down your doubloons. You can get good digital SLRs at less than 1/2 price.
i bought a sony cybershot---was rebuilt and cost me 55 dollars in navy exchange-----sometimes it would be laggy sometimes it would be fast---there is, i found, a trick to making the camera work faster with less lag time--depends on the setting used---if the one i want doesnt go fast enough i set automatic and it is faster,,,,,,i took all my pix in caribean with it and i am satisfied with all except some lights i was trying to get for christmas shots.....
