Sailing Sites are under virtual pirate attack
This past weekend at least two well-known sailing and cruising sites were under attack by pirate hackers.
"Russian hackers may have been responsible for infecting the Seven Seas Cruising Association website," said Pat Lynch, SSCA's web master. "The site was infected with a Trojan bug that attacked each and every html page."
In the first few hours, visitors to the site were redirected to a bogus URL ending in ".ru" which is a Russian-based Internet address. Fortunately, the site was removed from service and a thorough cleaning was untaken. "The newly security-enhanced site should be back up and running by Monday evening," Pat told The CC.
Currently, anyone trying to access
www.ssca.org sees a Google Alert screen that stats "Reported Attack Site" and gives folks the option to "get me out of here!"
In a similar situation, Sail-World.com said that their sites including Powerboat-World and MarineBusiness-World was also under attack.
"Our security systems and some water cannons kept the hackers at sea, but server processes slowed, as we withstood heavy rocket grenade attacks. Frustration over the last two days, but today we are back at full speed.
As Daryl Krasu, our senior programmer says ‘What does not kill you.... makes you stronger. We now have even stronger security (rolls of high tensile barbed wire on the stern and side rail as well) and a faster data retrieval system."
