song came out in 1969  or 1970 when i still lived in st louis and had a red  notchback volkswagen and was a singer.,

ritchie vaens, buddy holly and  big bopper died in a plane crash in  mid 50s, the 10 yrs we  were all alone was the 10 yrs between the day the music died,  and the times of beatles and  rolling stones. the song was a tribute song written for the musicians. miss american pie was donna,  buddy holly's girlfriend. the widowed bride was wife of ritchie valens., they had just gotten married. there was only transient  politics in the song, and only as related to the tribute to buddy , ritchie and the big bopper.

LOLA,Thanks for posting this great video, now I have had this song in my head for weeks, brings back great memories, was at Don M. concert when he first sang this song in the early 70's
