Across the Pacific - Days 8 & 9: Anemometer

The wind picks up. We shorten sail and ultimately give up beating into it and heave to. The next day conditions are better.

I'm glad you are enjoying the videos.

I didn't really learn to sail until I got my own boat and moved aboard in 1990. I was lucky to have a neighbor, a professional captain of a private sport fishing yacht, who had grown up cruising the Pacific with his parents. He wanted to go sailing but I demurred because my engine was dead. He said "It's a sailboat isn't it?" so I learned to sail off the South coast of Oahu without the engine. Laura had no sailing experience until we got together in '96 but she was an experienced diver and had spent a lot of time on the water. The next video will give a hint of the kind of experiences we've had together d;^)

Cool video, really enjoying them! How long have you two been sailing?? Both seem pretty comfortable no matter what you're handed weatherwise.
