It seems I can blog but not send e-mails. Here in Staniel Cay I am thankful this is my only challenge. Thanks to last year's sailing mate who taught me how to select a good anchorage has paid off. Securely settled on the northeast side of Thunderball Rock, the bumpy seas to the south, southwest are minimal. Although I can squeak in closer to the 'rock,' I am comfortable having more sea room between me and my neighbors.
Accessing e-mail would make my heart sing as the loneliness of not having chat time with friends. I always knew I talked 'too much' but never realized how much I would miss hearing the voices or seeing the verbiage from friends and family. The limited contact is good practice for longer passages.
Tomorrow the wind should settle in a more westerly, northwest direction. That will encourage a day's sail to Georgetown. The expectation is that Georgetown will be a haven for city dwelling sailors. I am reticent about finding a good place to anchor amongst the crowd. It is a necessary stopover.
An important item I forgot to order were gps charts of the Caribbean and Panama area. Despite one person's opinion that I buy too much food, no need to scrimp about having rations aboard. Another important item on my list is contacting others going my way. Last night Dave, on a neighboring Morgan 33 stopped by to ask if I needed any help. He noted my anchoring, and offered assistance.
Yesterday I treated myself to contracting with AT & T for 50 free text messages. As I understand it I can send 50 text messages per month for a mere $10. It cost me nothing to receive a text. As much as I would embrace contact, be sure to check with your phone carrier. You may have to pay a fee to send or receive text messages from me. Even though I can't use the 450 minute talk time within the US, at this point, the total $50 a month may be worth it.
Regrets about using this message as a more personal means of staying connected. Hopefully by the time I get to Georgetown I will figure out how to get e-mail to work.
In the meantime, stay safe!
