Posted on March 28, 2009 at 12:34pm 4 Comments

As an old Tancook whaler owner I hope someone from our SeaKnots community will buy and "save" this absolutely wonderful boat. It's a piece of art and they sail like a dream! Very fast boat.

Believe me, everyone welcomes you and gives you high 5's in a Tancook.

this is not my boat; I found her surfing for wooden sailboats for sale last night... after a few glasses of Jack Daniels.

As far as I know there are ony 2 Tancook… Continue

Thanks Pat,
It’s a Venture of Newport 23’, originally made by the MacGregor Company in limited editions. They only made these boats by special order during the month of October from about 1971-1978.

Hi Pat, I'm in Bangor, Northern Ireland. I have a Freedom 25 with wing mast and also crew for racing on a Sigma 33. We have a fantistic marina with deep water for miles, Start line 200 yards from the marina opening. Sadly though, much rain, little sun and no heat.

Good Morning, Pat!
I haven't sailed that side of the hill since my crewing days on the Zodiac, but I can tell you that sailing here in MY neck of the lake has been EXCELLENT!
My first mate and I just got back from five days on Lake Roosevelt, where all beaches are public property, and the morning winds in Sept. are dependable and steady.
(P.S. The photo in my portfolio is of me on a 52' ketch in the vicinity of Mazatlan, Sin., MX., last winter...not sure if it was Dec. or Jan, as I was there 4 months...but the weather there is wonderful, after Sept.)
Sail Well,
Dale

Ya, just moved here from Fort Lauderdale. Kinda different, but the cabin on the lake is "base camp". Seattle in late august and september... Port Towsend wooden boat show is great and so is the cruising in the San Juans and South Puget Sound. Not great winds, but great cruising. Some members in Washington can give you details.

Interesting. I grew up in OKC and didn't see much water around Sand Springs! You've seen more sailing destinations than most coastal folks!

Try Lowie's Yacht Harbor in San Rafael. $6.50 a foot plus electric.
