We were anchored in Simpson Bay and couldn't believe how low they flew. Would have been cool to see from this vantage point.

A friend of mine is anchored on the French side of St Marteen and said he was just at the beach. It's at the end of the runway and some people stand at the fence behind the 747s as they power up to take off. They usually get blown over and definately sand blasted. Not for the feint of heart that's for sure.

Yeah, wouldn't have been my chosen place to anchor..was one of those "any port in a storm" moves. As I've said before... been there once..no need or desire every to return. Too commercial for me. The puddle jumpers that flew in & out of there were the most scariest thing of the whole trip. I kept thinking where is the landing strip as they would corkscrew and dive at the same time. ugh. I like Tortola's "nothing built higher than a palm tree" rule. Would love to do more sailing around there and maybe St. John. .
