Hi Stephen,
Wow, Reno, Nevada! My mate and I had lunch in Reno about a year ago while on a cross country tent camping trip. My blog is so long in need of an update. I will read it over tonight and conjure up a recap. I can't remember off hand where I left off. It's been a bittersweet life with SPRAY, my Marples 35 keeping me grounded.....Ironic, isn't it that a floating home has me so close to mother earth.
Truly, I am so proud to own a Marples 35. With the boat came such a legacy to include a friendship with the man himself, Mr. Jim Brown. I know John Marples deserved his due and am privileged to have not only met John, but actually had him on board one chilly, rainy Florida day about 2 years ago. In addition to my blog I have had two chapters of my sailing life published on the online magazine, www.outrig.com
My writing hit a wall when I decided to write a technical article about my anchoring system. As simple as it has evolved, writing about anchors required another language to learn. Is it a Danforth or a Plow? What do you call the roll bar that everyone tells me makes my main anchor the best there is. Anyway, I promise myself that with you renewing my spirit, I will work on it an hour a day!
In the meantime, be sure to check out the video of my particular model that was filmed when the previous owner and Jim Brown sailed it to the Rio Dulce. Upon arrival at the Catamaran Hotel the boat was put up for sale. That is where I bought her. I am proud to own this boat.
So, are you building yours from plans? Is she a refurbishing deal? I will be glad to help anyway I can. Surely, we need a Marples fan club. I have another online sailing friend in England who is building one. It is such a sea worthy boat. GREAT hearing from you.
Marlene, the Sassy One...
