Ever been told to wear shoes at the boat ramp? Ever not listen to what you are told? Ever have a sail mate think they know better?

So it was on Friday, May 14 when one of my crew and aspiring small boat racers decided to take her shoes off before getting out of her boat at the ramp. Seems she forgot she was told to wear shoes. Seems she also was clueless about the danger that lurks in the nasty, broken glass, oyster shelled, moss covered slippery ramp waters where we launch our small boats. As they say a picture is worth a thousands words. More importantly, this picture is here to remind everyone that despite the romance of airing one's toes while traveling the seven seas, when getting out of the boat, you just might want to put your shoes on.

omg..what a thing to see with that first cup of coffee!!!!! so true though..always wear shoes..have seen my share of horrific foot injuries from bare feet/toes hitting cleats while running from one end of the boat to the other. Oh boy, that's hurting ..and it isn't even me.

Nasty , and thanks for reminding us.
Just today , in a battle with the devil of a current, trying to dock our boat, I jumped off without shoes and had no time to think of getting splinters into my feet . Heck, after this landing, I may need new knees ! I think , while approaching a dock, preparing to land, putting on shoes should be just as important as bumpers, lines, etc..

Good thought. I think I will enter it. Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't mean to gross people out; but I have to admit I was pleased with how my first 'surgical photo' turned out.
