Modern day Treasure Hunters Come out for some fun!

One of the coolest things I think our yacht club has ever done is to have started an anual Treasure Hunt on Lake Sabine & this year marks the 2nd annual outing and is in my opinion the best so far. I know there are those that think that number 2 and beyond of anything never seem to garner the same response as number 1, but let me tell ya...this years Pirate & Treasure Hunt was the bomb! We had more members than you can shake a stick at ..and more boats out on the water for this event than the club has probably ever seen at one outing ..save our hard core racing events! There were Treasure Hunters, Pirates, & onlookers as well! The arsenals were water guns, water ballons, & just about anything water related. Strategy was deployed amongst the teams & the faster boats eluded the pirate attacks & hunted down the treasure whilst the rest of the ranks did the bidding of warfare to keep the pirates occupied. Check out the happy faces in these pictures and you'll have to agree. If you care to see more about this event or want to know more of anything else happening in the Lake Sabine area ..feel free to visit our club's website at http://payc.us and look for the monthly newsletters link on the left. I have the dubious task of being the editor for said publication ..and im late getting this issue out ..so the June issue might not be there if and when you look ..but check back soon ...I always get it posted in its full glory!

Edited and moved from an earlier post:

Disappointed, Jamar's link (those I've offered) isnt nearly as thorough as the Austin Statesman's articles (Jan. 19, 2002 and Jan. 28, 2002). The vague discription offered in the links leaves me thinking about removing the links from my page- the information provided isnt enough to interest one to further investigate the whole story, I feel. For starters it fails to mention he and a friend planned on hiking from San Diego to Maine after exiting the Marines, build Kayaks when they reached Maine and proceed to paddle home to Marble Falls, as Jamar did. The friend backed out in the middle of the hike, while Jamar continued with his dog, which he intercepted on the way to maine. The article goes on...

Chuck Lindell at clindell@statesman.com, 512.445.3627 wrote the article, perhaps you can email and request his writtings.

I threw the idea of the treasure hunt to our commodore. He said not many folks were interested in the Poker Run but will take a vote on it next year...wish us luck. If ye have any other suggestions as to how to make it a success, Im listenin'. Do yall actually bury treasure or simply chase each other around keepin' each other cool?

Disheartened, our lighthouse only offers a lot to the imagination -No beacon, No caretaker and No 5+ foot waves crashing into the rip rap spraying mist into the wind offering the occassional rainbow.
