Assessing the project

sunny, high 60's

11/09/2009, Port Kinsale Marina, Kinsale VA

The hardest part of making the trip to Kinsale is actually getting into the car and doing it. I finally dragged myself out of the house at 9:40am or so and set off. Despite leaving ridiculously late (especially since it gets dark so soon now) I decided I wasn't rushing down again and blowing past all the intriguing stuff on the way. As I approached Oak Grove, about 30 mi… Continue

Moving Day

Well....it didn't start out to be moving day.....I loaded the car to the roof (for the third time) and set off on the 3 hour trek to Kinsale. (First time I got there and was informed the marina was holding the boat for debts, second time I destroyed a tire about halfway there and had to return home....)

A little backstory....here are the photos of the marina and boat from when I bought it back at the end of May, when I found out it wasn't really mine after all......…

How are you doing with your repairs. I'll be heading down that way in a couple of weeks. I'm going to Lewisetta Marina for some repairs. Let me know if you would like some help while I'm in the neighborhood.

Those darn "Previous Owners"!! I think it's a law that you're allowed to blame anything that goes wrong for the next five years on the previous owner. My boat's P.O. did some lame stuff that I had to fix. He did a lousy job of bedding the deck hardware, I'm sure he painted the topsides with a broom, he rarely pumped the bilge, and he never touched the teak. Don't even get me started on the electrical stuff!! Grrrrrrrr....

At first you'll curse his ancestors all the way back to Adam. But as you begin to fix things your way and bond with the boat you'll thank him for selling her to you. (Hopefully!)

Gail!!

I see you got the Cirrus! Major congratulations!! I hope the two of you will be very happy together. If you need any info or tips, I'm here for you.

I just moved Nautila a few weeks ago from Monroe, Michigan to a new marina just east of Toledo, Ohio. They have deeper water, many more ammenities, and it's much, much cheaper.

Welcome to SeaKnots, Gail. Lots of great folks here who are all willing to share their passion for sailing.

Fair winds,

Mark
