Arguments for tandem keels from web site posted by Terri yesterday copied here for your convenience.
Advantages of a Tandem Keel
- reduced draft
- even though the draft is reduced you achieve the same range of stability as a deep keel (the center of gravity is kept low by putting weight from center of keel into bulb). Also slightly heavier than a standard keel
- same pointing ability as a deep keel. Each wing has a higher aspect ratio and are working more efficiently when compared to a single lower aspect ratio keel.
- better damping of pitch and roll
- smarter tacking
- better directional stability and resistance to broaching
- tank testing and actual use indicate improved performance and general “behavior” over shoal keel. Performance comparable to a deeper draft keel
- larger attachment plate reduces loads on hull during groundings

Most interesting, Terri. I'll buy some of the theory, but not all of the execution as evidenced in the photo. Thanks for chasing that down.
Not a clue. Too much shrinkwrap, nobody around. Also saw a rudder with diamond shaped cutouts. Should have taken a pic of that too. Maybe to let some water thru so not too much drag? Clueless on why on a keel..would think you'd want that resistance. Don't know enough about.
