This was a great race and an easy passage to Bermuda. The winds topped out at around 28 knots, but on the whole, the average wind speed was somewhere around 15-18 knots. The Marion-Bermuda race is a celestial navigation race. About 1/2 of the boats enter the celestial only competition, but to increase participation they have an electronic navigation division also as well as spinnaker (single asymmetrical spinnaker, no pole) and non-spinnaker divisions. About 60 boats compete in this race. I have some pics of non-spinnaker boats hauling ass that I'll dig up and post later. Our program at the Naval Academy is the last entity in the US Navy that teaches celestial navigation. No longer is the CELNAV class instructed as a nav/math course at the Naval Academy.
