Ever the adventurous dreamer, I spent years ignoring one of the most beautiful sailing venues only a few miles from home. By car, it is about 4 hours from Indialantic, Florida and about two from Everglades City. By boat from Everglades City it took us four days. Consider that we meander at 5 - 7 knots during no wind days and that we are in no hurry. Stopping along the…

Til Death due us Part

One never knows for certain if and when they will see another.  Life is a precious phenomenon. It has been said that living guarantees death. This is not to present a negative, depressing train of thought. Rather, it is meant to reiterate the sadness, guilt, and despair that can result when a loved one passes from the world of the living to a world the living knows little about.

Years ago I read a book. A question was posed. "What happens to a mind when a person dies. During…

Welcoming Self Back to Blogging

Before retirement there was always time to blog. Journaling and writing articles flowed from my fingers. Click-clacking across the keyboard, nearly as fast as my high school typing days breaking the speed/accuracy records of my classmates,  is how I whiled away sleepless nights. My…

Poke 'n Thru Hull

After much consternation, the chillaxin phase is over. Time for work. This past week had my mate and I engaged in painting the deck, improving his newly built rowing dinghy, and putting two holes back in the boat.

The deck painting was needed. Like…

Hi Marlene, I have a Marples CC35, it is gorgeous but needs beams, cockpit etc finished. Do your amas fly very easy? Did you consider using an outboard instead of a diesel? I have offered my 27 year old daughter the boat but if she passes on it I may sell her. Love your new lifestyle. Stephen Marcoe

Hi Marlene Anne,  I'm Julie and I live in Vero Beach.  I am interested in your trip to NY and Bermuda.  Also I am interested in going sailing with you sometime when you take the tri out.  I am also interested in gaining enough experience to circumnavigate in 2 years!!  I own a 38' Westwind I have moored over in Fort Myers Florida for now.  But am looking to move it over to Vero Beach in April.  That might be a fun trip if you wanted to do part of it.
