A couple years in the Med & 2 summers racing in England 1 summer on the Baltic out of Kiel..Lived in Spain for 2 years. Been racing in France 3 times, visited France two other times, therefore I enjoy learning Spanish, French, Portugues and dabble in Italian & Catalan. Some study in Japanese & Russian as I have friends from those countries. Some of my students are taking Arabic and Chinese, so I try to greet them in those languages (badly...) Basically, the study of language is a concept in understanding people, their culture, their perspective...
Now Coaching & racing full time.
80% of my time is prepping boats in the boatyard & managing a fleet of offshore boats.
Occasionally a nice long delivery.

I used to be first mate on sailing and motor yachts....I got to take jobs in some pretty nice places to cruise. Working on sailboats was more of a partnership with the owner...everyone helped out. Things change big time when I moved to motor yachts...more money but the partnership was over! They were the owners....I was the paid help.

Hi Pete, regarding rudder failure, nothing has been found yet, Beneteau proceeded repairs immediately and boats are back enroute. As per owner told me, Beneteau never ever had such failure before, indicating an isolated case, but they reinforced OC43 and OC40 with new lamination and collar. I'm just asking if anyone have had such failure before. We should wait for news before conclusion ....
Yes, Carrico. There is a small shop in Port Puntarenas where you can get acoustic guitars and spare parts... but it will be much cheaper go to San Jose (2 hour drive) where you will find a lot more variety and lower prices. I suggest Juan Bansbach or Guitarras Mora or Guzmán. They make nice light high volume acoustics.

Thanks for the compliments on my page! I sadly had to sell my Hobie Cat 18 and my race quad to make the last delivery trip from Seychelles to Egypt. However, I plan to buy another one in the spring, as I expect to have some money by then. I also plan to see Costa Rica soon, and hey, if you ever need race crew somewhere, keep me in mind! I love racing! While completing my crew certificate in Thailand we raced in the Top of the Gulf Regatta in the cruising class. If nothing else come up by next spring I will go back to Thailand to race in that one, plus the Kings Cup.
Cheers mate!
Monty
Thailand was where I went to learn how to sail. I had never set foot on a sailboat or been out of north America before I went there. When I was done, I had my IYT bareboat certificate, and a little racing experience. As far as Costa Rica goes, I would like to see it for sailing and diving, sights, and I would give surfing a try since I have never done that before. I have heard great things about Costa Rica! Thailand was great of course, and I can't return fast enough!! The racing there is all filmed, very cool.
hank you, Puerto QUepos is intresting, but Gulf of Nicoya is nicer. I try to keep my boat in Gulf of Nicoya most of the time because I missed a Marina here in QUepos. Please see my web site www.tulemar.com
Pete, Thanks for your comments about Tulemar. That is the place where I spend most of my time and act as the general manager of the development company. You are more than welcome whenever you want to visit.
I have read your sailing background and is very impressive. When are you coming down?
Gabriel
Great! I make sure that we do a big party with all sailors of the Gulf of Nicoya. Recently we had our annual regata and it happens that we won. My mast is lacking rake, it is a little to much forward, and we had back wind all the time. That made that we had the opportunity to win.
Yes, this is the place to surf, sail and party. I am sure we will have the opportunity to see your sailing presentation and share some thoughts about rigging, etc.
Happy new year!
Gabriel
Fabio came back to his slip because of some trouble. A him why? Your seminar looks very interesting. Please let me know when do you have something like that in the South part and maybe a group of us can come over.
Happy new year.
Gabriel
Well, yes it is longer than the original wooden one, but when I replacen the aluminum mast I decided to leave it longer so I coul place my ham radio antena or use it as a crane to lift the dinghy. Sometimes you find a used mezzana that is a lithle longer, so 2 extra ft. will do no har. By the way, happy new year to U and URS. Arnoldo. SV Espahtal.
Paul - Good talking to you the other day. I like your knots video - I learned what you call the Cajun come-along as a trucker's hitch driving newspapers in New York.
Thanks Pete, I have since put a wash of sage green on the frame...The one I'm working on now is a racer, with spinnaker. Thanks for the visit...What have you been up to?
Appreciate ya stoppin by ...yup ..it was (and still is) quite a mess ...we are all keeping our spirits up that we will be able to host sailing events at the club again by this summer ....still ..without a decent marina ..it makes it quite the challenge. I'll have to stop back by and visit when I have a little more time to peruse your site ...have to hit the road on business this morn ....have an interesting Friday the 13th ..*lol*
Seeking recommendations for a Marine Surveyor in SE Turkey.
A good friend is intending on purchasing a 52'er in SE Turkey and I thought this vast group may have some members who have had some experience, good or bad, with marine surveyors in Turkey.
Any info might be helpful.
I might be doing the delivery, or at least the portion through the Med to the Balerics Gib or Canaries.
Hi PCarrico, I think it's time you get to have another look at Porto Cervo, they still are big on regattas, though now they have a lot of maxi yacht racing which are impressive to see. But I'm sure you had more fun on your one tonner. I remember them well.
Hey Pete
was at the boat..took a picture of the meter...it was an hour meter. I have a picture of the fuel gauge and the hour one.....will upload them later.
Hi Pete. I graduated from boat school in 1972 and was not on the sailing time. I sailed recreationally at USNA and over the years since. No cruises nearly as long and adventuresome as your sailing resume. I know there is no excuse, sir, but my Navy and AT&T careers kept me moving, too busy and sometimes landlocked. I'm making up time now! All the best, Steve
Hey Pete, In the photo is my 15yo son on his Flying 11. Will put a pic up of my old tub...its a timber 125 (121/2 foot dinghy) Just finishing my second season and really getting the hang of it. Finished 1st on a handicap start last weekend, real thrill !! Have a 5 year plan to get a cruising yacht and leave Sydney behind....so I thought I had better learn to sail!!!!
Your family sounds like ours...teenage guitar playing son, family of skiers (eldest son becoming an instructor) ...no grandchildren yet, thank goodness. We have 4 kids 3 boys and a girl...the youngest is turning into a keen sailor and is keeping us young. We sail at the same club. You sure have plenty of experience...sounds like a great life. My keen fisherman hubby would love that...has to beat plumbing!!
Hi Pete. I'm a US Navy Chief Petty Officer rtired from the Naval Accademy. I was the craftmaster onboard YP-687 from Nov. 2000 to Oct 2004 and visited the Robert Crown Center many times.
Pete, sorry I missed your invitation yesterday. I haven’t sail at the Chesapeake Bay for a few years now and I missed. Please keep me in for your next sailing opening my phone (202)215-1888

The verdict is in, Bismark Dinius found not guilty in the absurd false accusation murder case of the fatal boating crash that caused the death of Lynn Thorton due to neglegent operation of a high speed powerboat by Russel Purdock.

Wow, time flies. Sorry I haven't checked in with SeaKnots lately. Been super busy with racing & training. Another big project was the rebuilding of our Farr 30 (Mumm 30) chainplates. Seems Carol Marine, the builder of most of the Farr 30's, read the design drawings wrong and drilled the access hole for the chainplates on the wrong side of the box frame thus weakening the structure. I've modified the chainplate with a 20 hr, $200 material repair that I suspect most Farr 30's will need someday. The new chainplate structure worked perfectly with 25 knots true wind racing this weekend.
Hey Pete, thanks for the contact...now that your season is coming to an end, why don't you and your wife pick me up on my Vacation to Myrtle Beach offer, as seen in the female Sailors Group? I can put you up in my home.. our Season is all year here. Has been raining a lot lately. You can follow my weather on my page.
Hey thanks..the music takes me back..one of my favs is OH GIRL, and IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU..a remake by Adam Lambert...check it out....its in Chinese ...but safe.

I am not really on the leading edge of racing here. Just happy to be on the water every now and then.
Although all we do here is race. Nowhere to go to cruise.
As soon as we go out of the bay it is Bass Straight.
