I have had sail boats since 1976 and sailing since 1974. When not with my Bayfield 25, "Real McCoy Too" I collect antique autos, have them from 1910 thru 1975, total of 9 autos.
Current location:
Home - Toledo, Ohio, Boat - HVYC, Harbor View, Ohio
Destinations visited:
Just around Lake Erie in my boat, around the world, Europe, S. America and Australia on trips by air.
Looking to:
Get the boat ready to launch if the rain ever stops. We are to have 6 more days the weatherman says and my exterior teak needs refinishing, I wish I had put the boat in the barn last winter.
The boat went in the water and the mast setup on Sunday, 6/5/2011. So glad to finialy get it in the water.
The good news for me is the damaged to my brain from the hit on my head is almost gone (well some that know me don’t believe that). Would you believe that I actually gave up being retired and went back to work! It was only because I was asked to and I was almost made to feel guilty for not coming back.
Mac, I noticed in your comments in the forums that you sail out of Toledo. I'm just up the coast a bit in LaSalle, Mi and have a slip at South Otter Creek. I'll watch for "The Real McCoy Too". Fair winds!
What an awesome hobby to have - collecting antique autos ....I would imagine the folks & groups behind them or as dedicated and savvy as sailing folks when it comes to their passion. I also must say that we never thought about some type of assessment down here at our club - but more than likely the same thing would happen here ...they would pay the difference and nothing would change in the end....still.....its an interesting approach!
Mac, I sail OPB's. I sail beer can races on a Hunter 40 and Saturday races on a Catalina 42. I went out for a day sail Sunday on a friends Pearson 42. What kind of boat do you have?
The boat is fine...a lot of branches and leaves in my yard....the picture is from when I put stain on my deck...was expecting more response to tell ya the truth...just trying to shake this place up a little.ha ha. I think I'm a real looker in the picture
Yes,Like mixing things up a little You been sailing? I use to live in Portsmouth Ohio...I thought weather there was much better than home State Minn. Ya you betcha
Yes all winter, and don't have to winterize. I have an Rv too, but that has to be winterized...use mostly to escape Hurricanes if coming here. It does freeze on land here some.
Hey Mac,
A fun day in the Bahamas - just removed the holding tank from the B-29 - good I had a sawsall (sp?). Looking forward to an xmas run to Hope Town, Abaco. I just picked up another sailboat (how many do I need) a Sandpiper 565 (18'6") to keep on the lake behind my Ontario house. The Countess 33 that I sold in June is now in the Med after a great Atlantic Crossing. Hope to see you this summer.
Mac, The sunken ship is the President Cooledge, which is off the shore of Espirito Santo....and island in the Vanuatu chain (south pacific). Its world class diving! Clear warm water, lots of fish and coral, a wreck with lots of stuff in it......but its deep. It lies at 140' to 240'....all deco diving, but worth it! There are local dive shops that specialize diving this wreck and are all set up with decompression stops. Vanuatu is the best diving i have ever done...by far! Better than the Great Barrier Reef even.

Hi Mac,
I'm just about ready to buy a 1980 Bayfield 25. I see from your pictures that you've figured out how to raise the mast single handed and I also see that you have a trailer extension. Can you tell me how the trailer extension is built and how well it works?
Another question. I've looked at a lot of Bayfield 25s and some say the displacement is 3500 lbs and some say 4300 lbs. Any idea what's up with that?
Thanks Mac,
Asheville is a cool town, been a good place to raise kids and be.
Follow up questions. Have you ever known of anyone to successfully use a trailer extension for a B25? Do you use a lift? Around the Charleston area those things cost $250 round trip! You mentioned your boat weighs in at 5100 lbs. Does that include the trailer? Finally, I read one person's complaint that the Yanmar 8 is a little underpowered. Has that ever been a problem for you?
THANKS!
Paul

Hey Mac,
You told me awhile back that you installed opening portlights. Can you tell me what size you used? The ones listed for Bomar and Lewmar don't seem to fit.

Hi Mac,
I know of your Bayfield, but haven't had the pleasure of sailing one. She's a beauty. Thanks for posting pics.... I have an ocean kayak and a 1982 ODay Daysailer II. Fractional rig, 5HP, New Tiller 2007, New Standing rigging this year, and 2 sheets sales, orginals;clean and blown out. I need to install shrods and mast base. Anyway, she, Belle Luce is on the hard on Shinnecock Bay. I also a friend's Hobie 16 in Shinnecock Bay. I'd like to find a suitable boat for me and I have short list of ones I plan to sail in the 28 to 32 foot range.
Hi Mac, must be disturbing about the break-ins. Guess you have to lock her up. Is there any kind of liner for the Bayfield... and what winds do you need to get her going ?
Thanks for the pics... I'm really only interested in the 25 and what is it ? 29 or 30 ? Bayfield, cause if I was to get one that would be limit... but it would be nice if I felt comfy on the 25... less boat is good.
And hey... it's a great sickness to have LOL.....
take care.. share a few now and then when you have a chance !
Hey Mac..you can never have boats. I just bought a Sandpiper 565 in Ithaca, NY. At 18"6' and 1200 pounds she's perfect haul around and easy to launch on the lake behind my house.. Hope your big house project is going well..

I assume you are the same Mac who regularly adds information to the Bayfield Yacht Owners Club (though Yahoo I think).
I just wanted to say hi and I love the cabin sole you have pictured on your boat.
