Our 2009 B40 has the Raymarine S3 autopilot with the hydraulic ram and the ST6002 control head.  The electronic compass is located in the aft berth hanging locker beneath the lower panel.  This is within about 6" of the wiring running along the starboard side of the boat.  As two of our 4D batteries now reside in the starboard settee base, there are two pairs of 2/0 cables (+ & - 12vdc) that run thru this area. When running the investor, a pretty good current runs thru these cables and plays havoc with the electronic compass.  I moved the compass up about a foot today just under the middle shelf but am not expecting much help.

Months ago I purchased a used board mounted gyro out of a S3G autopilot and installed in my unit. It read the unit OK and during sea trial, it had the correct settings but the autopilot went berserk when you set it to do the calibration run.

Raymarine has come up with a new generation autopilot.  I have heard good reviews.  Wondering if anyone has upgraded or knows of an install and could give us some insight.
